Factors that influence data sharing through data sharing platforms: A qualitative study on the views and experiences of cohort holders and platform developers

Empirical studies show that several barriers (potential data misuse, loss of control, lack of resources, socio-cultural factors as well as ethical and legal issues, and so on) impede sharing data broadly. Thus, to describe concerns for cohort data sharing and their implications for data sharing platforms, infrastructures are being developed to enhance and facilitate them at international level. To do that, seventeen involved participants were recruited for semi-structured interviews to share views and experiences regarding data sharing. In conclusion, to guarantee equality, reciprocity, trust, transparency, gratification and beneficence, data generators might use data sharing platforms primarily for collaborative modes of working and network building.
